Pot Roast Macaroni & Cheese from The Friar's Nook - Snack Review

It has been my observation that everyone has a food weakness.  Some people have two or three or even more (heck, some people's weakness may simply be food).  Two of my big weaknesses are pot roast and macaroni and cheese.  Disney, being the evil mad geniuses they are when it comes to manipulating the comfort food crowd, decided to blend two of my weaknesses into one gooey, meaty mess called, not entirely imaginatively, pot roast macaroni and cheese.

This item can be found at The Friar's Nook in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom, across the way from the Seven Dwarf's Mine Train.  There you'll find a number of macaroni and cheese options, including the inspiration for this blog post, as well as bacon cheeseburger mac and cheese, hot dog mac and cheese, and macaroni and cheese covered in panko bread crumbs.  As I previously stated, out of these options, pot roast most certainly checked off the most buttons, so I handed over my cash and waited impatiently for what I anticipated to be an umami masterpiece.

What arrived was largely what I expected - a decent sized bowl, full of orange cheesy goodness, topped with shredded meat.  I gave the dish an experimental stir and was pleased to watch the meat fall apart and blend with the cheese.  The most pleasing part to see, however, was that there were beautiful, gooey strands of cheese coming off of the macaroni.

Of course, food can look beautiful all it wants to - it really has to taste good for us to be happy, no?  I sampled a bit of the meat first.  It was a good, tender piece of meat, completely falling apart into soft strands of beefy deliciousness.  The cheese didn't overpower the meat at all - in fact, the two complimented each other extremely well.  My one complaint about this dish, and this was stated around fairly rapidly consumed mouthfuls, was that the macaroni was a bit overcooked.  It would have been more of a disappointment if the pot roast wasn't adding texture to the whole affair, If this had been a solo outing for the macaroni, the almost mushy mouthfeel throughout probably would have turned me off quite a bit.

That being said, if you're looking for something to split with a family member for a quick stick to your ribs meal, or if you don't mind packing on a few calories (they don't count at Disney, after all...) and eating it yourself, the pot roast macaroni and cheese from the Friar's Nook is definitely an item to enjoy.
